GENERAL INFORMATION:

The Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) /ˈmɑrʃəl ˈaɪləndz/ ( listen) (Marshallese: Aolepān Aorōkin M̧ajeļ), /ɦˠaɦˠʷɜlʲɜpʲanʲ ɦˠaɦˠʷɘrˠɘkɨnʲ mˠaɦˠtʲɜlˠ/ or[ʕɑ͡ɒɔ̯ɔ͡ɛlɛbæn ʕɑ͡ɒo̯o͡ɤr̴ɤɡɯ͡in m̴ɑʕʑɛ͡ʌɫ], is a Micronesian nation of atolls and islands in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, just west of the International Date Line and just north of the Equator. As of July 2011 the population was 67,182. ^[5] In 1986, independence was attained under a Compact of Free Association with the United States.

The income tax has two brackets, with rates of 8% and 14%. The corporate tax is 11.5%. The general sales tax is 6%. There are no property taxes.
